If you’re still believing that facebook is all about friends, college students, and families keeping in touch, I hope you’ll read on. facebook is a social media that has become THE way that both individuals and businesses communicate and share information. And it pretty much happened while those of us who are over 30 were trying to get the DVR programmed correctly! Here are some amazing statistics:
It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million users; it took TV 13 years to reach that goal. The internet, 4 years and the iPod just 3 years. Quite a leap of technology! Here’s a more amazing statistic: facebook gained over 200 million users in less than a year! If facebook were a country, it would be the 4th largest country in the world. China is number one, followed by India and the United States…and then facebook.
So here’s a completely rhetorical question? Shouldn’t you be there, too? One of the leading social media marketing experts, Erik Qualman, stated “We don’t have a choice on whether we do social media, the question is how well we do it.”
Recent marketing studies have reported that 75% of consumers trust peer reviews and recommendations over advertisements; only 14% put more stock in advertisements. And the remaining 11% are probably designing their facebook page right now!
In future posts I’ll describe the process for creating a page that is just for your restaurant and how to encourage your customers to visit the page and add their reviews. Your restaurant page is completely separate from your personal facebook page—clearly you don’t want to mix your family and friends events with your restaurant marketing! But the first step you must take is to create a personal page for yourself. From that you can create any number of business or special interest pages that, while associated with you personal account, have no physical connection to it.
