Your Website (probably) Sucks

Today’s technology has made it possible for everyone to have a website.  And there is certainly no shortage of web designers willing to create you a masterpiece of a website for very little money.  But the main question is: Why do you have website?

If you answered anything other than “It helps me grow my business” then you have the wrong website. And how often is your website updated with new information?  Most restaurant websites have been created just to be a pretty face for the restaurant—to show pretty pictures of the decor or food, have trendy or upscale graphics, give the address and telephone number, and provide a downloadable (often out-of-date) version of the menu.

This was really awesome in 1995!  Today it falls into the “who cares” category.  Flashy graphics are slow to load, it’s much easier to get address and telephone information from a search engine, pdf menus cannot be used on Smartphones, and most websites are not designed for mobile viewing—mobile access  accounts for nearly 65% of all access to restaurant sites.

So, if your website has  any of these characteristics, then it’s pretty safe to say that it will be given a “thumbs down” by many visitors.  What can you do?

The good news is that it’s a pretty straightforward fix: Convert your website to a blog and get into the habit of posting new information regularly, make it mobile-friendly, and most important of all: Lose That 1990’s Flash Intro!!

Blogs really do let you have a fresher, more interactive web presence and you won’t have to hire a technical consultant to post to your site.  Once you site is designed and activated, adding content to your blog is no harder than sending an email.
